RMI Assists Navy with Retail Power Procurement
Chicago - March 18, 2008 - RMI Consulting, Inc. (RMI) recently assisted the Department of Navy in San Diego, through contractual arrangement with Western Area Power Administration, with the procurement of its 2009 and 2010 power purchase requirements.
Through RMI's KnowRiskExchange TM online retail purchasing platform, approximately 1,400,000 MWh were purchased by the Navy from multiple suppliers. As part of the process, RMI also assisted the Navy with the development of a multi-year procurement plan, including statistically based price targets, and has provided on-going performance analytics as well as statistical risk based analysis through RMI's proprietary Value-at-Risk methodology for long term portfolios.
The Navy previously used RMI's KnowRiskExchange TM execution process in 2005 and 2006 completing purchases for over 5,000,000 MWh of electricity for their California installations.
The KnowRiskExchange TM electronic platform offers a valuable and efficient real-time alternative to a manual Request for Proposal (RFP) or an online reverse auction process in retail power procurement. RMI (www.riskmgmt.net) is a leader in energy risk management consulting and brokerage in both the public and private sectors.
